Reflection of Independent Seminar

Today’s seminar is special for us, it’s an independent seminar. Without the teacher’s guide, our group member all expressed the text they have chosen and analysed the main idea completely.

As for the spokesperson of our group, I organized my group members to have discussion on the grassland instead of sitting in the boring classroom, I guess we’re the only group which could have a seminar discussion outside the EC Building. The most important thing is, it works, the environment is much better than inside the building, it actually made us more comfortable and relax, so we all have confidence to exchange the idea that we have in a pleased atmosphere. Well, I think independent seminar is actually a great part in our study, because different students have different thoughts to their discipline, and we can learn how to think more precise and comprehensive. In addition to this, independent seminar can also help us to improve our ability of independent thinking without assistant.

Today, we had our first independent seminar in the afternoon with different partners which all of us are majored in law. Before the seminar, we download WhatsApp to communicate because there are three foreigners in our group and the don’t use Wechat. It’s a new app and we chat on it in English. I think it’s also a good way to improve our English because we just chat with my Chinese friends in Chinese. 

Everyone came to the classroom on time and we started to discuss quickly. We introduced our topic of the article we have chosen and discussed the questions about genre analysis. We all thought the ”structure”, ”content” and ”language” are difficult to write. The atmosphere was harmonious and humorous and our seminar lasted over an hour. Honestly, the independent seminar make us feel more relaxed.
